If you are allergic to this medication, tell your doctor about it. If you develop allergic symptoms after taking it, seek medical attention immediately.<\/p>\n<p>You should also avoid finerenone if you have high potassium levels in your blood or severe liver disease. Pregnant women should exercise caution with this drug. No one under 18 should take finerenone.<\/p>\n<h3>Side Effects \u2014 Aldosterone Receptor Antagonists<\/h3>\n<p>Finerenone\u2019s side effects range from mild to severe. They work by helping the body eliminate glucose through urination.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.drugs.com\/dapagliflozin.html\">Dapagliflozin<\/a> (Farxiga) is an SGLT-2 inhibitor that is also effective at slowing the progression of chronic kidney disease. It\u2019s often prescribed for people with CKD, both those who do and those who do not have diabetes.<\/p>\n<h3>Contraindications \u2014 Dapagliflozin<\/h3>\n<p>Avoid all SGLT-2 inhibitors if you have type 1 diabetes. These medications are also not appropriate for people who already have moderate to severe kidney damage.<\/p>\n<p>You should not take drugs in this class if you are allergic to them. The drug may not be safe for people younger than 18.<\/p>\n<p>Also, avoid SGLT-2 inhibitors if you have:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li aria-level=\"1\">Liver problems<\/li>\n<li aria-level=\"1\">A urinary tract infection<\/li>\n<li aria-level=\"1\">Pancreatitis<\/li>\n<li aria-level=\"1\">A change in your diet<\/li>\n<li aria-level=\"1\">A habit of binge drinking<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>Side Effects \u2014 Dapagliflozin<\/h3>\n<p>SGLT-2 inhibitors can cause dehydration leading to sudden kidney injury. Dehydration can also make you feel weak, dizzy, and lightheaded.<\/p>\n<p>People who take diuretics to lower their blood pressure are at an increased risk of dehydration when taking SGLT-2 Inhibitors.<\/p>\n<p>If you have kidney problems, are older than 65, or do not include enough salt in your diet, you are also at an increased risk of dehydration from SGLT-2 inhibitors.<\/p>\n<p>In people with type 1 or type 2 diabetes, SGLT-2 inhibitors can cause a condition called <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov\/books\/NBK534848\/\">ketoacidosis<\/a>. Ketoacidosis may be lethal.<\/p>\n<p>Other severe side effects of dapagliflozin include:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li aria-level=\"1\">Nausea<\/li>\n<li aria-level=\"1\">Vomiting<\/li>\n<li aria-level=\"1\">Difficulty breathing<\/li>\n<li aria-level=\"1\">Abdominal pain<\/li>\n<li aria-level=\"1\">Low blood sugar<\/li>\n<li aria-level=\"1\">Urinary tract infections<\/li>\n<li aria-level=\"1\">Necrotizing fasciitis, a disease that may also be lethal.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The more common side effects of these drugs include:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li aria-level=\"1\">Sore throat<\/li>\n<li aria-level=\"1\">Stuffy nose<\/li>\n<li aria-level=\"1\">Changes in urination habits<\/li>\n<li aria-level=\"1\">Yeast infections of the vagina or penis<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>Drug Interactions \u2014 SGLT-2 Inhibitors<\/h3>\n<p>SGLT-2 inhibitors may cause dehydration when combined with diuretics. Dapagliflozin can interact with 325 medications, among them <a href=\"https:\/\/www.drugs.com\/drug-interactions\/acetylsalicylic-acid-with-dapagliflozin-243-3224-3506-0.html\">aspirin<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.drugs.com\/drug-interactions\/dapagliflozin-with-paracetamol-3506-0-11-2744.html\">paracetamol<\/a> (acetaminophen), and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.drugs.com\/drug-interactions\/dapagliflozin-with-vitamin-c-3506-0-238-3823.html\">vitamin C<\/a>. Be sure all of your providers have an up-to-date list of all medications and supplements you take.<\/p>\n<h2>Angiotensin-converting Enzyme (ACE) Inhibitors<\/h2>\n<p>ACE inhibitors treat high blood pressure as well as some kidney diseases. They help with kidney disease by lowering blood pressure.<\/p>\n<p>All ACE inhibitors target an enzyme that narrows the blood vessels and helps the body release hormones like aldosterone and norepinephrine. This enzyme, angiotensin II, and the hormones it helps release, can all contribute to the narrowing of blood vessels and increase blood pressure.<\/p>\n<p>By blocking this enzyme, ACE inhibitors lower blood pressure, kidney pressure, and urine production.<\/p>\n<p>ACE inhibitors are generally safe to take and well-tolerated. Some of their side effects may be severe, however. In some patients, these side effects may grow so troublesome that they must discontinue using the medication. The common side effects of ACE inhibitors include:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li aria-level=\"1\">Dizziness<\/li>\n<li aria-level=\"1\">Blurred vision<\/li>\n<li aria-level=\"1\">Dry mouth<\/li>\n<li aria-level=\"1\">Fatigue<\/li>\n<li aria-level=\"1\">Sweating<\/li>\n<li aria-level=\"1\">Headaches<\/li>\n<li aria-level=\"1\">High levels of potassium and creatinine in the blood<\/li>\n<li aria-level=\"1\">Low blood pressure<\/li>\n<li aria-level=\"1\">Dry cough<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>These drugs can also cause more severe side effects, such as:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li aria-level=\"1\">Severe, life-threatening allergic reactions<\/li>\n<li aria-level=\"1\">In pregnant women, miscarriage or harm to the kidneys of the fetus<\/li>\n<li aria-level=\"1\">Angioedema, or swelling of the tongue and throat<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Angioedema is more likely to occur in patients who smoke or belong to the African-American ethnicity.<\/p>\n<h3>Drug Interactions \u2014 ACE Inhibitors<\/h3>\n<p>ACE inhibitors can interact with many drugs. The following are the most common and well-known interactions, but the list is incomplete.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li aria-level=\"1\">Non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs)<\/li>\n<li aria-level=\"1\">Oral diabetes medications and insulin<\/li>\n<li aria-level=\"1\">Other medications used to manage blood pressure<\/li>\n<li aria-level=\"1\">Diuretics<\/li>\n<li aria-level=\"1\">Lithium<\/li>\n<li aria-level=\"1\">Gold injections for arthritis<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Many different types of ACE inhibitors exist. Their drug interactions and side effect profiles may differ.<\/p>\n<p>To patients who cannot take ACE inhibitors due to their disruptive side effects, doctors may prescribe angiotensin-2 receptor blockers (ARBs).<\/p>\n<h2>Angiotensin-2 Receptor Blockers (ARBs)<\/h2>\n<p>Like ACE inhibitors, ARBs target angiotensin-2. By blocking this enzyme, these drugs relax and dilate the blood vessels, reducing blood pressure and urine production.<\/p>\n<p>ARBs may be a solution for patients who can\u2019t take ACE inhibitors. Because high cholesterol can cause chronic kidney disease, lowering cholesterol levels can also treat CKD.<\/p>\n<p>Statins work by blocking an enzyme called HMG-CoA reductase.
